Conshohocken Woman Charged With Homicide By Vehicle

Breaking: The Conshohocken woman told police that her windshield had fogged up, making it difficult to see the elderly man she struck.

CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — A Conshohocken woman faces homicide by vehicle charges after she struck and killed an elderly man in the crosswalk in January, police said.

Leah Cielo, 31, was driving down Fayette Street at around 6:52 a.m. on Jan. 31 when the victim, Bruce Collins, 80, was crossing the street.

Collins, who was walking with his friend Robert Lindsey, were in the marked crosswalk near 4th Avenue when Cielo struck Collins in her Toyota Camry.

Cielo was going about 32 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone, authorities said. In an interview with authorities, she said that her windshield had fogged up and made it difficult to see. She added that she would have pulled over but there was a car in the lane next to her, the criminal complaint states. She said she saw Lindsey first, and swerved out of the way and hit the brakes, but when she swerved, she hit Collins.

Police allege that Collins operated her vehicle in a reckless manner.
