Cops Seize Largest Heroin Stash In Norristown History

NORRISTOWN, PA — A suspect is on the run and wanted by police after authorities seized a historically large stash of heroin from his residence.

The incident occurred at around 9:45 a.m. on Dec. 22 on the 600 block of West Airy Street, according to the Norristown Police Department. Police had obtained a warrant for the residence at 602 West Airy from Judge Hunsicker after an extensive investigation into Eric Viney, a wanted drug trafficker who was living there.

Viney wasn't home when police knocked. However, once inside, police found more than 255 grams (9.1 ounces) of heroin, which represents the largest seizure of heroin in the history of Norristown, according to Lt. Todd Dillon. They also found fentanyl, wax packets used to package heroin, a 9 MM Ruger handgun, cocaine, cocaine packing materials, a large amount of prescription drugs, marijuana, a pot used for cooking cocaine, and $3,000 in cash, police said.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding Viney, who is pictured above. They said he has a criminal record, including firearms charges and related counts.

Viney is described as a black male weighing about 150 pounds. He stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall and brown eyes.

Dillon commended Officer Carl Robinson specifically for his work leading to the seizure of the heroin and helping police crack down on a poisonous presence in the neighborhood.

In addition, Detective Schurr and the Montgomery County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.
