DA, Sheriff To Donate Adaptive Bike To Boy In Norristown With Special Needs

The unique bike will help Andrew, 6, "gain a sense of independence and freedom," officials said.

NORRISTOWN, PA - Several sheriff’s department bicycle units will escort Andrew, a special needs child who will be riding his customized bike for the first time, from the Montgomery County Courthouse steps on December 22.

The DA’s office teamed up with Wheels of Justice to donate the unique bike to the boy.

Andrew, 6, has global apraxia, a developmental coordination disorder which involves difficulty coordinating mouth and speech movements and motor planning.

The bike has been customized to enable Andrew to gain a sense of independence and freedom while enhancing mobility.

The event will kick-off with police officers escorting Andrew to the courthouse steps on their bicycles. Officials, heads of non-profits and representatives from the community will come together to help celebrate Andrew riding his new
customized bike for the first time.

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman will be on hand to offer welcoming remarks affirming Wheels of Justice’s commitment to the region and its non-profits and citizens. Deb Buenaga, Executive Director of Preston’s March for Energy, will present Andrew with the bike.

About Preston’s March for Energy: The organization was launched by the Buenaga family of Wilmington, Delaware, whose son, Preston, has disabilities that keep him from being able to ride a standard bicycle. A few years ago, a family friend started a Facebook campaign to raise money and donated a custom bike to Preston. After seeing the happiness it brought him, the Buenagas decided to pay it forward and raise money to have bikes made for other children. Read more about Preston’s March
