11 More Die From Coronavirus In Montgomery County

Eleven more Montgomery County residents have died from coronavirus, the most deaths recorded in the county a single day thus far.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Eleven more Montgomery County residents have died from coronavirus, the most deaths recorded in the county a single day thus far, officials said on Wednesday morning.

That brings the county's total number of casualties to 43.

The county announced 108 new cases Wednesday, bringing the county total 1,402. Arkoosh added that local officials did not believe the peak had "quite arrived yet," but that it was expected in the coming week or two.

The deaths announced Tuesday include:

  • 62-year-old woman from Lower Merion
  • 72-year-old woman from Cheltenham
  • 83-year-old man from Upper Gwynedd
  • 61-year-old woman Cheltenhem
  • 85-year-old man from Upper Gwynedd
  • 86-year-old man from Upper Gwynedd
  • 90-year-old man from Hatfield
  • 90-year-old man from Ambler
  • 82-year-old man from Upper Gwynedd
  • 48-year-old woman from Norristown
  • 93-year-old man from Upper Gwynedd

Officials also released demographic information on the 43 overall deaths, as reported by their families. The deaths in the county include 24 Caucasians, five Asians, one Asian-Korean, two Asian-Indians, four African-Americans, and seven unknown.

About 250 people are hospitalized in Montgomery County as of Wednesday, officials said. All hospitals still have beds open, both in the ICUs and in their regular beds.

Only a small percentage of those cases are on ventilators. There remain a number of unused ventilators in the county hospitals as well, Arkoosh said.

The news comes just days before Montgomery County's community coronavirus testing site at Temple University-Ambler is scheduled to close on Friday. The county is working to continue to offer testing in the future.

In addition, all Montgomery County hospitals are now offering testing.

A total of 59 of Montgomery County's 62 municipalities now have positive cases. Bryn Athyn, Pennsburg, and West Conshohocken are the three that remain without any positives.
