Domestic Violence Rises In Montco: Where To Turn If You Need Help
Montgomery County has seen a 9 percent increase in domestic violence calls since the coronavirus outbreak began, officials said.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Cases of reported domestic violence have increased by 9 percent in Montgomery County since the coronavirus outbreak began, officials said, as the quarantine is stressing some familial relationships to the breaking point.
The data was compiled from an analysis of thousands of 911 calls and police reports filed since March 11, and compared with data from the same period of time in 2019, the District Attorney's Office said.

"Living in this unprecedented pandemic is a stressful time, with adults and children staying at home together, confined to close quarters while at the same time being upended from routines, friends, jobs, and other constants of their lives," DA Kevin Steele said in a statement.

Authorities said it was important for the public and any victims to know that they are still responding to domestic violence incidents and other crimes during the coronavirus crisis.
"Add to that fears of getting coronavirus, job losses, and stress, and you have a situation that can lead to tensions in even the best of relationships, but especially where there is a family member who acts out physically and emotionally," Steele continued.
