Drought Watch Lifted In Montco & Neighboring Counties
The state Department of Environmental Protection on Sept. 1 issued a drought watch for numerous counties. It has now been lifted in Montco.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — After more than a month of being under a drought watch, Montgomery County is now in the clear.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Monday lifted the drought watch in Montgomery County, which was one of 16 counties across Pennsylvania to have the watch lifted.
Nearby, Chester, Delaware, Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties also had their drought watches lifted.

The watch is still in place for 20 counties, mostly in Central Pennsylvania.
During a drought watch, residents are asked to reduce water use by 5 to 10 percent, or a reduction of three to six gallons of water per day.

Drought declarations are based on four numeric indicators: stream flow, groundwater level, precipitation, and soil moisture.
There are normal ranges for all four indicators. Drought declarations are issued after officials assess the departures from these normal ranges for periods of three to 12 months.
The Department of Environmental Protection also factors in information it receives from public water suppliers.
The drought watch had been issued in early September.
