PHILADELPHIA, PA — Somebody goes down, somebody else steps up.

It's been the mantra for the Eagles for weeks now as they continue to battle an ever-increasing onslaught of injuries. And it's propelled the team to yet another NFC East division title, as they defeated the New York Giants on Sunday and clinched a playoff berth on the final day of the season for the second year in a row.

The game was a closely fought matchup through three quarters, with things knotted at 17 apiece heading into the game's final 15 minutes. And that's when the Birds were picked up once more by unheralded players.

Most notable of all was Boston Scott, a 5 foot, 6 inch running back who has barely seen any action in his career, who accounted for three touchdowns. Perhaps none was more impressive than this reception that brought the Birds to the one yard line:

Scott was forced into a starring role when Miles Sanders went down with an injury early on. His ability to find holes was all the more impressive given the slew of injuries to the Eagles offensive line this year, as the team was without Lane Johnson and Brandon Brooks Sunday.

Another star was Dallas Goedert, among the Birds' biggest performers last week against the Cowboys. With the Birds driving on 3rd and 8, Carson Wentz tossed a pass over Goedert's and the defender's head and Goedert made an incredible grab, dragging his toe to get a second foot in-bounds:

The Giants were still in the game as late the early 4th quarter, roaring back instantly from a 17-10 deficit with a superhuman 68-yard touchdown run from Saquon Barkley.

However, it proved to be too little, too late.

While many fans were anxiously watching the Dallas Cowboys game against the Washington Redskins with an eye towards the possibility that a loss to the Giants would leave them vulnerable to a Cowboys win. But the Cowboys' 44-16 trouncing of the Redskins ultimately proved to be irrelevant.

The 9-7 Eagles head to the postseason as the playoff team with the worst record. Their opponent in the first round will be the loser of the Sunday Night Football matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. Although the Eagles have an inferior record by several games, they will host the game at Lincoln Financial Field because they are the higher seed as a division winner.
