Dear Editor,

Over the weekend I was talking to voters in East Norriton about the upcoming election.

One gentleman told me “I only vote during the big elections like president or governor."

To be honest it’s not the first time I have heard this opinion.

I asked him if local police protection, having his street plowed during a snow storm, maintaining a functional sewer system and items like that were important to him.

“Of course” was his answer.

Well, that’s what your local Township government does every single day of the year.

In our Township the Supervisors make decisions on a regular basis that affect your family, your property, your schools, your highways and just about every aspect of your daily life. They make zoning decisions, adjust tax rates, oversee a workforce in excess of 50 people and manage a $18,410,638 budget.

After a brief pause he said to me “I guess I better vote."

I thanked him for his time and courtesy.

He replied “No, thank you, it was nice to meet you and I will see you on election day."

Please remember there are no small elections.

And I hope we will see you at the polls on November 7th.

Barry Papiernik
Candidate for Supervisor
East Norriton Township
