Elmwood Park Zoo's Flamingos Leaving For Rhode Island

Three flamingos are leaving Elmwood Zoo for Rhode Island.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Three flamingos are leaving Elmwood Park Zoo for Rhode Island, where they will join a larger flock, zoo officials announced Thursday.

The flamingos will live at the Roger Williams Park Zoo and Carousel Village, located in Providence.

"We will miss having these colorful birds around, but know they will be well received as part of a bigger community," the zoo said in a statement announcing the move.

The zoo's Chilean flamingos have been housed The Wetlands Center since June 2004. They are listed as "near threatened," according to the IUCN.
