Emergency Cold Weather Shelters In Norristown During Cold Blue Event
As temperatures plummet, the county is taking steps to keep residents safe.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- The Montgomery County Commissioners, on the advice of the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for Montgomery County based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service, they announced Tuesday.
The Code Blue Declaration has been issued for Montgomery County for the period beginning at 9:00pm on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 through 9:00am on Monday, February 15, 2016.
A Code Blue Cold Weather Declaration is made in Montgomery County when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter.

A Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is anticipated to be 20ºF or less. For general cold weather information, check the Montgomery County Health Department website: www.montcopa.org/codeblue.

Saturday A chance of flurries before 8am, then a chance of flurries with isolated snow showers between 8am and noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -7. Windy, with a northwest wind 18 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 46 mph.
Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 1. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.
Sunday Sunny, with a high near 17. Wind chill values as low as -14. Northwest wind 8 to 13 mph.
Sunday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Residents of Montgomery County who need shelter during a Code Blue can go to the Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center (CHOC) in Building 53 at the Norristown State Hospital grounds. If needed, transportation will be provided. The CHOC is a 50-bed shelter for single residents. The phone number for the CHOC is 610-292-9244. Families are sheltered at the Salvation Army in Norristown or Pottstown.
