Fire Extinguished At Norristown Transportation Center

Crews were able to quickly contain the fire, which stretched up to the roof and sent up plumes of black smoke.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Heavy black smoke purled from the top of the Norristown Transportation Center late Tuesday afternoon and early evening as a fire was battled.

The incident began at around 4:50 p.m.

The fire was traced by firefighters to the gutters of the building, and had extended all the way to the roof, officials said.

Due to the quick response, the damage was minimal, and no injuries were reported.

It was not immediately announced what the cause of the fire was, but gutters that accrue material like dry pine needles and leaves and other bits of trash are at risk of becoming flammable, experts say.

The fire occurred just hours before six homes were destroyed in a massive blaze in nearby Royersford.

Norristown Professional Firefighters Local 2335 was assisted by the Lower Providence FIre Department and Bridgeport Fire Department on the scene.
