Why go: The community is rallying around a couple who recently lost everything in a house fire with a “kicked-up” beef and beer. In addition to the traditional food and drink, the event will also feature live music by Hot Sauce Junkies and DJ James Fields, prizes, raffles, gift baskets and door prizes, including a 52-inch Sharp LED flatscreen television.

Where/When: Greater Norristown Art League, 800 W. Germantown Pike, East Norriton; March 19 and 20, noon to 5 p.m.
Why go: Come check out the Art League’s 2011 juried Photography Show—it’s free and open to the public. A reception will take place March 20 from 3 to 5, with an awards presentation at 4:30 p.m.

Where/When: Church of the Messiah, 1001 Dekalb Pike, Ambler; March 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why go: Belfry Bargains Thrift Shop will hold a special sale of gently used prom, wedding and formal attire and accessories at reasonable prices, just in time for prom and wedding seasons. The sale will be held in the parish hall. Proceeds will be donated to charity.

Where/When: Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, 1001 Powell St., Norristown; March 19, 11 a.m.
Why go: The library will host Dr. Robyn Faye, a certified ob/gyn, for a lecture: "Osteoporosis: Unmasking of a Silent Thief."

Where/When: Montgomery County Community College—West Campus, 101 College Drive, Pottstown; March 23 at 12:30 p.m. and March 25 at 8 p.m.
Why go: As part of its ongoing Multicultural Film Series, MCCC will screen Gods and Monsters, the 1998 film exploring the final days of James Whale. Whale was a prolific director in the 1930s and 40s and the film reveals the history of the troubled relationship between Hollywood and homosexuality.
