Home Robbery Led To Chase, Fatal Shooting In Norristown: DA

Christen Greene, the victim in Sunday's fatal shooting in Norristown, identified the man who shot him just before he died, the DA said.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The victim of a fatal shooting in Norristown on Sunday identified his killer just before he died, leading to an arrest, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced.

Santiago Villifan-Andrade, 29, of Norristown, has been arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter in the homicide that occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday.

The incident occurred at around 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 9, near the intersection of Lafayette and Green Streets in the borough, according to the DA's office.

Greene had allegedly broken into Villifan-Andrade's apartment to rob it, and was caught in the act by Villifan-Andrade, authorities said.

Greene pointed a gun at Villifan-Andrade, took money from his wallet, and fled the apartment, according to the DA's office.

During the chase, Villifan-Andrade tripped Greene, knocking the gun free. Villifan-Andrade then took the gun and shot Greene, police said.

When Norristown police Corporal Daniel DeOrzio and Officer Brian Kozera arrived on the scene, Villifan-Andrade placed the gun on the ground and put his hands in the air, according to the DA's office.

Greene was lying in the street, and told officers shortly before he died that it was Villifan-Andrade who had shot him. He was rushed to Mercy Suburban Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:01 a.m.

The incident marked the second fatal shooting in just four days in the borough. Jordan Scott, 17, was killed last Thursday, and another teen was shot in the ankle.

Norristown Police Chief Mark Talbot said that the incidents are not related.

"We have no reason to believe that this crime was connected in any way to other incidents. In fact, we are certain that this was an isolated offense between two people who are not connected to what's been happening lately."

Talbot said that crews have been placed on call 24 hours a day to deal with serious incidents around the borough.

A preliminary hearing for Villifan-Andrade has been set for July 19 at 10 a.m.

Anyone with information on the shootings should call Norristown police at (610) 270-0977.
