PENNSYLVANIA — A major outage across the nation, including in Pennsylvania, impacted access to Comcast Xfinity's phone, internet, and television services Tuesday morning. Many customers reported that their services were back online as of just before noon, according to DownDetector.com, which gathers reports from individual customers. Comcast confirmed that service is being restored.

The exact cause of the outage is not yet clear, nor is its duration. Comcast and Xfinity addressed the outage, ongoing for some since late Monday night, but did not offer an explanation for exactly what caused the issue.

“Earlier, some customers experienced intermittent service disruptions as a result of a network issue,"Robert Groves, Comcast's Vice President for Communications, said in a statement to Patch. "We have addressed the issue and service is now restoring for impacted customers, as we continue to investigate the root cause. We apologize to those who were affected.”

The company put out a similar public statement a few hours before.

For several hours, the Xfinity Support account on Twitter addressed frustrated customers on an individual basis as if their concerns were isolated.

Additionally, a recent tweet from the support account about daylight savings time — to which many customers experiencing outages had replied in order to complain — was deleted Tuesday morning.

Multiple police departments and municipalities in the state are at least partially offline as a result, including in Lower Merion. 911 is still working or residents who need to call for an emergency.

Elsewhere, schools with online classes, particularly some cyber schools, are facing significant issues.

The outages are not just impacting the greater Philadelphia area and South Jersey. Some are reporting outages as far as California.
