Man Arrested With $3,200 In Counterfeit Bills At King Of Prussia Mall

Numerous high-end thefts recently have sparked extra patrols around the mall area.

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — Police arrested a man with $3,200 in counterfeit bills, as well as specialized shopping bags meant to get around shoplifting sensors, outside the King of Prussia mall recently.

The incident occurred at around 6:15 a.m. on May 24 near the Bonefish Grill.

Numerous high-end thefts recently have sparked extra patrols around the mall area, authorities said.

One of these patrols spotted a "suspicious" vehicle which had backed into a parking space. Police saw that the car had backed in and decided to run the plates, and that's how they discovered that the vehicle's owner had sevearl active criminal warrants for theft in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The driver of the vehicle first gave detectives a fake name, then eventually admitted they were the vehicle owner, police said.

Inside the vehicle, police found $3,200 in countefeit cash as well as what they called "booster" bags, which can evade store security sensors sometimes, according to authorities.

There were also two bags of stolen merchandise inside the vehicle, police said.

The man, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. He will be extradited to New Jersey.
