Man Fires 7 Shots Into Occupied Car In Norristown: Cops

The would-be victim inside told police that he "played dead" and somehow emerged unscathed.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A 20-year-old Norristown man has been arrested after firing seven shots into an occupied car in Norristown on Monday, never hitting his ostensible target, according to authorities.

Through an investigation involving both interviews with witnesses and usage of surveillance video, authorities determined that Isiah Mitchell was in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by his mother, at around 3:55 p.m. on March 5.

His mother then dropped Mitchell off near the 600 block of Sandy Street, near where the victim was parked, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The victim was sitting in his car on the street, smoking marijuana and listening to music, when he heard what he later told police were "firecrackers."

When the victim realized he was being shot at, he "played dead" and lay motionless across the front seat.

Police recovered shell casings for eight shots, seven of which were fired into the vehicle.

After an investigation led authorities to Mitchell, police and a SWAT team gained a search warrant for his home, on the same block of Sandy Street. When they arrived, they saw Mitchell go into a vehicle across the street from his home and reach into the floor for something. Officers quickly moved in and Mitchell was arrested.

Later, police recovered 1.5 pounds of marijuana, more than $4,200 in cash, and a semi-automatic handgun on the floor of the vehicle where Mitchell had been reaching.

It's not yet clear why Mitchell fired upon the victim.

Mitchell faces charges of aggravated and simple assault, along with firearms counts. He did not post $100,000 bail and was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is set for March 16.
