Man Flees Hospital 'Screaming' After Lansdale DUI Arrest: Report

Twenty minutes after admission to have his blood drawn, the man with "red and glassy" eyes, slurring his speech, was on the run again.

A Hatfield man fled the hospital mere minutes after being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Lansdale, according to a story in The Reporter.

Matthew Michael Shaw, 21, of Hatfield, was pulled over after he drove up onto a curb while making a turn at West Seventh Street and North Cannon Avenue on October 1, the report states. Shaw did not pull over for nearly half a mile after the cop put his lights on, and he did not have ID when pulled over, according to the report.

His eyes were reportedly “red and glassy,” he smelled of alcohol, and his speech was slurred, but he denied drinking or smoking anything that evening. He refused a portable breath test and was immediately arrested and taken to Abington-Lansdale Hospital to have his blood drawn.
