Man Sentenced For Shooting Father In Head On I-76 In West Conshohocken

Kymere Corbin was suffering from a mental illness when he shot his father in the head as they drove on I-76 in Montgomery County in 2015.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to prison for shooting his father in the head while they were driving on I-76 in West Conshohocken in 2015, according to court documents.

Kymere Corbin, now 24, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, documents state. Corbin's charge reflects the fact that he was mentally ill at the time of the incident. He will spend the next four to 15 years in prison, according to documents.

The incident occurred on April 7, 2015 as Corbin and his father, Elbert Corbin, Jr., 41, were traveling westbound on I-76, police said. Kymere's mother, Tanya Bates, was also in the car at the time. Kymere's parents were taking him to the Malvern Insitute in Malvern for treatment at the time.

It was about 5:45 p.m. when Kymere Corbin shot his father in the head. Elbert Corbin was treated by paramedics and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was able to recover.

According to a report in the Times Herald, Corbin suffers from schizphrenia. Judge Joseph P. Walsh said that the priority was to bring Corbin's life "back on track" and that he would need additional treatment before he became eligible for parole.
