MLK Weekend @ Mishkan Shalom

Congregation Mishkan Shalom, located in Philadelphia, is pleased to announce its schedule for the Martin Luther King weekend.

Friday Evening January 16 – Shabbat Evening

5:45 pm - Shabbat Potluck w/ young Mishkan members, Aliza Ruder and Ted Boughter-Dornfeld.

Saturday January 17 - Shabbat

9:00 am Torah study

10:00 am – Celebrations! Family education program for children with special needs, their parents & siblings with Gabby Kaplan-Mayer and Rabbi Michele Greenfield.

10:00 am Service w/Rabbi Shawn, family program with Julie Benioff and Vav class with Rivka.

Discussion on race, ethnicity and Jewish life with Mishkan member speakers Dr. Jackie Robinson and David Love.

7:00 pm – Noar Hadash Mishkan Teen Social Program

Sunday January 18- Tkkun Olam theme day at Mishkan Shalom Congregational School

Individual class activities reflect their studies and honors Dr. Martin Luther King. The Gan/Aleph/Bet class will make sandwiches to give to the Eastern Delaware Valley Life Center; the Gimel class will discuss ways to support children with special physical problems. Dalet/Hay will focus on the environment. Vav will learn about school funding with guest speakers who are working with Philadelphia children. The community is invited to participate.

Monday January 19- City-wide MLK “DARE” Day March – Day of Action, Resistance and Empowerment

12:00 pm – Meet at Mishkan for a short program with Rabbi Shawn and Rabbi Yael. We can then car pool or take the train together to the rally. (See www.septa.org)

1:30 – 1:45 pm– Meet other Mishkan members on southwest corner of Callowhill and Broad Streets. Look for Mishkan banner.

2:00 pm – March starts at 440 N. Broad St and ends at Independence Mall
