Montco GOP Committee Member Removed From Post For Harris Support
The local GOP leader, who made headlines for his criticisms of Trump, was removed days after a "swatting" incident at his home overnight.
UPPER MERION, PA — A Montgomery County Republican party committee member has been removed from his post due to his support of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and his public criticism of former President Trump.
The removal comes just days after Matthew McCaffery was "swatted" overnight, drawing a huge police response to his Upper Merion home, following a CNN appearance in which he underlined the dangers of a second Trump administration.
"The Committee felt this to be a very straightforward case," Montgomery County Republican Committee Chair Christian Nascimento wrote in a letter to McCaffery. "You admitted to violating MCRC's bylaws and did not defend your actions."

"I voted for Trump in 2016," McCaffery wrote in a headline of an op-ed laying out his position. "His disrespect for veterans will make me vote for a Democrat."

After the swatting incident, he noted that "these types of attacks are exactly why I’m speaking out against the MAGA wing of my party and why I’m proudly voting for Kamala Harris."
Nascimento said that McCaffery's comments illustrated "unrepentenace."
"Similar behaviors would continue if you were allowed to retain your seats, only to the detriment of the party," he wrote.
McCaffery responded very briefly.
"I guess they picked up on my apathy," he said on his social media profile.
No arrests have yet been made in the swatting case.
