Montco Housing Market Hits 9 Year High, County Says

The Montgomery County housing market is thriving, according to the county, with sales at their highest mark in nine years.

NORRISTOWN PA -- The Montgomery County housing market is thriving, according to the county, with sales at their highest mark in nine years.

A total of 11,441 homes were sold in the county in 2016, more than the impressive 10,489 sold in 2015.

In addition, the median sales price of homes in Montgomery County increased 2.9 percent, from $270,350 to $278,500, officials said.

“This is a strong indicator that our economy in Montgomery County is growing and that the county is continuing to attract new residents each year,” said Valerie Arkoosh, the Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, in a statement. “This new report also indicates that Montgomery County continues to sustain a wonderful quality of life that makes it a desirable place to live, work, and play.”

The numbers come from the Montgomery County Planning Commission's annual report, which also measured things like median sales on new construction and single-family homes, both of which are going up as well.
