Montco Sheriff Donates 135 Cell Phones To Norristown Domestic Violence Shelter
The generous donation will help fund the shelter's 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline, which received over 1,300 calls from victims last year.

NORRISTOWN, PA – Montgomery County Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny donated 135 old cell phones to Laurel House, a comprehensive domestic violence agency, to help fund their 24/7 Domestic Violence Hotline, which received over 1,300 calls from victims last year.
Laurel House will receive a fee for each donated phone through a charitable recycling program.
“Supporting domestic violence victims, and their children, is one of my top priorities,” Kilkenny said in a statement. “The hotline is normally the first access point for victims to get critical services.”

The sheriff’s office has donated 100 working cell phones over the past year for domestic violence victims to use to call 9-1-1.
Kilkenny said, “It’s important to know that even unusable phones can be donated for cash to benefit services for victims.”

The funds from the donation and recycling program go towards paying for equipment and phone service, which costs $9,000 per year.
