NORRISTOWN, PA — A Montgomery County woman executed a series of 45 thefts from her employer, totaling $1 million, authorities said.

The District Attorney's Office said that Christine Cushman, 31, of Douglassville, has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and related counts.

Cushman was the director of human resources at HighPoint Solutions, a business technology firm in East Norriton. She allegedly issued herself a series of fraudulent payroll checks in the names of four former subcontractors, the DA said.

“Nearly $1 million was stolen from this company by a senior-level, trusted employee. This breach of trust is something that needs to be guarded against by other companies,” said DA Kevin Steele. “Unfortunately, corporate theft is all too prevalent and requires a system of checks and balances within the corporate system to make sure this doesn’t happen.”

HighPoint's chief financial officer met with East Norriton detectives, and together they discovered Cushman was responsible for the 45 thefts totalling $919,301. All checks were written over a two year period, between May 5, 2015 and June 15, 2017.

Cushman was arraigned on Aug. 2 and released on $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 22.
