Montco's Habitat For Humanity To Honor Villanova At Gala

Villanova students dedicated 250,000 hours of service to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County in 2016.

Villanova's quest for a national title may have ended prematurely, but one thing that's never been in question is the passion of Nova Nation.

At least, so says Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, which received 250,000 hours of volunteer service from Villanova students in 2016.

Habitat for Humanity works throughout the county to improve housing situations for hardworking, in-need, low-income families.

The nonprofit is honoring the university's students during their April 6 gala as their "Partner of the Year."

“We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for Villanova,” Executive Director Marianne Lynch said in a statement. “Today, we’re one of the top producing Habitats in the United States. We’ve been motivated to excel, and we built our capacity thanks to the support of faculty, students, alumni and University administrators. We couldn’t be more grateful.”

Villanova students have also raised a collective $150,000 for Habitat since 2002. Professors, including the business school's Robert Nydick, incorporates local Habitat projects into classroom lessons on charitable giving and business decision making.

“The students actively raise money, apply what I taught them and choose where to allocate it,” Nydick said.
