Montgomery County Adopts New $403 Million Budget For 2018

The 2018 budget adds 20 new positions to the county, in addition to funding significant road and bridge improvement.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has officially adopted its 2018 budget plan. The 2018 budget, at $403.4 million, was approved unanimously by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners.

“The county budget and capital plan reflect months of careful consideration and years of strong fiscal management. In 2018, we are able to continue rebuilding and improving our infrastructure, provide important health and human services to seniors, veterans, and children, expand our county trail system, and invest in our county employees - all without raising county property tax,” Val Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, said in a statement.

Some notable things in the 2018 budget: there is funding earmarked for a "compensation analysis" which will look at the salaries of county employees and compare them to neighboring counties. Over two years, the county says they will increase salaries to competitive amounts where necessary in order to "attract and retain the highest level of talent."

The budget also adds 20 new full time positions, including in Adult Probation, Assets and Infrastructure, Corrections, District Attorney, Finance, Health, Planning, Public Defender, and Sheriff.

The Capital Improvement Plan, which runs from 2018 through 2022, is also funded in next year's budget. The plan calls for road and bridge construction, courthouse additions, and work on a new Justice Center, among other things.
