More Overnight Lane Closures on 76 and 476 This Week

Some lanes of eastbound 76 and 476 will be closed overnight for bridge construction

Drivers traveling on eastbound I-76 in Montgomery County will face overnight lane closures and traffic stoppages at the I-476 Interchange this week, March 6-11, for overhead bridge construction, according to a release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Weather permitting, one of the two eastbound lanes on I-76 will be closed at the interchange in West Conshohocken on Sunday through Thursday, March 6-10, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Eastbound I-76 traffic in this area may be stopped periodically for up to 15 minutes Monday through Friday, March 7-11, from midnight to 5 a.m.

Lane closures and traffic stoppages will be in effect while crews install protective shielding and replace expansion joints on the I-476 structures over I-76.

Periodic short-term lane closures also may occur on I-476 on Sunday through Thursday, March 6-10, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for line painting and pavement repairs in between the I-76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges.

Drivers traveling on Chemical Road between Gallagher Road and Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township may encounter lane closures in either direction on Sunday through Thursday, March 6-10, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction on the overhead I-476 span.

These operations are part of PennDOT’s $71.7 million project to rebuild the 3.2 miles of I-476 between the I-76 (Exit 16) and Germantown Pike (Exit 20) interchanges in Montgomery County.

Drivers are reminded to slow to the posted 45 miles per hour speed limit and remain alert for shifting traffic patterns in the work zone.

Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester is the general contractor on the $71,728,383 contract that is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
