Norristown Community To Hold Vigil To Remember Boy Hero Sanford Harling

NORRISTOWN, PA -- One year after his death, the Norristown community will gather to remember beloved hero, 12-year-old Sanford Harling.

Harling, known affectionately as Man Man, sprinted back into the family's burning Markley Street home on February 5, 2016. He wanted to save his father.

His father, however, had already escaped. And Sanford never made it out.

Sanford was a member of the Norristown Youth Eagles and played on their 6th grade team in 2015. His heroic actions earned him accolades from across the nation, and tens of thousands of dollars were raised in his name.

“On the football field, Sanford could be seen cheering on his teammates and praying for them,” the Eagles wrote of Sanford. “Off the field, his personality was bright and comical.”

A vigil will be held in front of Sanford's home on Sunday, February 5, at 5 p.m. The public is invited. Attendees should bring a candle and a balloon.
