Norristown Focus Of Pa. Waterfront Development Hearing

Could something big be coming to Norristown's waterfront?

Norristown came under the state spotlight at a waterfront development hearing in the Pennsylvania Senate on Friday.

The hearing, which took place in Philadelphia, according to PaSenate.com, focused on ways to encourage more waterfront development in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia area, and around the state.

Multiple Norristown officials were on hand, including Municipal Administrator Crandall Jones and Norristown Director of Planning and Economic Development Jayne Musoyne.

A proposed piece of legislation, Senate Bill 282, would designate money for projects like streets and public rights-of-way; waterfront parks, gardens and open spaces; access to public utilities, erosion control, storm water management and other environmental projects that promote economic development; water transportation facilities for use by the public, including water transit landings and boat docking; and amenities including infrastructure and recreational projects, according to the report.

Both Norristown officials agreed that this kind of development would be good for Norristown.

“Communities like ours are a prototype canvas on which to build on this type of legislation,” Jones reportedly said. “One of the missing pieces in our economic development is the opportunity to turn our municipality to the river.”
