Norristown Football Launches Scholarship For Roger Grove

NORRISTOWN, PA -- A scholarship in the name of Roger Grove, the Hall of Fame football coach at Norristown, has been established.

The program is creating commemorative "Push the Button" t-shirt's in remembrance of Groves, described as a "a true teacher, mentor, leader, and coach."

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the scholarship.

"His legacy will long live in our hearts,here with our football program and high school," the program said in a statement.

Shirts cost $20, and the cost for two is $35.

Roger L. Grove, 70, husband of Peggy (Herr) Grove, of Phoenixville, PA, died on Friday, May 13, 2016 at home.

Born in Mount Joy, PA, he was the son of the late Lester M. and Vera N. (Weidman) Grove.

Roger was a graduate of West Chester State College and began teaching Health and Physical Education at Norristown Area High School for 35 years, where he was head Football Coach from 1976 to 2003.

After retirement he was an Assistant Coach at Neshaminy High School from 2003 to 2011. Roger was a member of four Halls of Fame, Donegal High School, West Chester University, Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame and PA State Coaches Football Hall of Fame.

He was a member of East Vincent United Church of Christ, Spring City, PA. Surviving in addition to his wife are, sons, Michael Herr Grove and wife Colleen of Norristown, PA, and David Herr Grove of Exton, PA; three grandchildren, Benjamin, Reese and Quinn; sisters, Judy Maxwell and Nadine Biller, and a brother, Ken Grove.

A Celebration of Life for Roger will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Presidential Caterers, 2901 DeKalb Pike, East Norriton, PA, at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Roger Grove Scholarship Fund, 1319 W. Evergreen Drive, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
