Norristown Man Robs, Assaults 74-Year-Old Veteran: Cops

A Norristown man attacked the 74-year-old veteran when the man didn't pay him for a ride, police said.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Tredyffrin Township Police arrested and charged a Norrsitown man in connection with the assault of robbery of a 73-year-old veteran that occurred on State Route 202 in December, police said.

Michael D. Greenwood, 30, of Norristown, has been charged with felony robbery, simple assault, harassment, receiving stolen property, disorderly conduct, and theft by unlawful taking, court records show.

He was remanded to a county jail in lieu of $15,000 bail after being arraigned Jan. 11, court documents show. He is slate to appear before Magisterial District Judge Analisa Sondergaard on Jan. 20 for his preliminary hearing.

Police said the incident occurred Friday, Dec. 16 when the 74-year-old victim, a retired veteran, was shopping at the King of Prussia Mall and paid for a ride from a stranger, later identified as Greenwood.

The Greenwood dropped the victim off at the Valley Forge Casino and agree to pick the victim up later for more money, police said.

After 4 a.m. on Dec. 17, Greenwood picked up the victim but asked for more money, which the victim denied, police said.

Greenwood then allegedly assaulted and robbed the victim along the roadside of the southbound late of State Route 202 near State Route 252 in Tredyffrin Township, police said.

Tredyffrin Township Police along with Norristown Borough Police and Plymouth Township Police conducted an investigation and located Greenwood.

Tredyffrin Police said Greenwood has charges pending in both Norristown and Plymouth.
