Because no Republicans are running for council, the winners of the primary will be the de facto winners of the seats, as they will run unopposed in the general election in November.
The council's turnover is not limited to the election, as a pair of resignations this year spurred a change in the guard. Councilman Thomas Lepera resigned in February, while Councilwoman Lauren Hughes resigned in March to run for judge of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas this fall. The newest members are Jasmine Griffen, who fills an at-large vacancy, and Natalie Colson, who fills the fourth district seat.
