Norristown Municipal Waste Development Plans Move Forward

Municipal council has approved a final plan for an extensive redevelopment of the Norristown Municipal Waste Authority.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Municipal council has approved a final plan for an extensive redevelopment of the Norristown Municipal Waste Authority.

Preliminary and final approval of a resolution was unanimously agreed upon by the council during a recent meeting, bringing the long-discussed project a step closer to fruition.

The project involves a variety of parts, including the demolition of two existing buildings and a building overhang, and the construction of three new buildings: a 567 square-foot structure for chlorine management, a 1,200 square-foot lower building, and a third, 4,000 square-foot maintenance building and accompanying rain garden.

The project also calls for additional internal driveways, providing access to the property from Washington Street. There will also be two additional parking spaces built at the eastern end of the parcel.

In approving the plan, municipal council also approved 12 waiver requests from the developer to alter the original proposal.

One point of discussion related to the waivers focused on the 4,000 square-foot maintenance building and the wooded area in which it is being built. The agreed upon plan calls for the "maximum amount of additional buffering and beautification" to be added along with the construction. Developers asked the council for permission to build first without specifying their exact plan, because they said they won't know exactly what the buffering will look like until the building is complete.

Council agreed to that, as well as the other waiver requests, in approving the plan.
