Norristown Passes 2017 Budget, No Tax Increase
Norristown residents will not be paying additional taxes in 2017.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Norristown residents will not be paying additional taxes in 2017. The municipality has officially passed its 2017 budget without any increase, officials announced this week.
At a December 6 council meeting, officials had proposed increasing the millage rate for the borough from 12.7 to 13.2, which would have raised taxes by 3.94 percent, according to the borough. That would have come out to an average increase of $34.20 per year for the average Norristown resident.
Officials further scrutinized the proposed budget and were able to shave off the increase. The final budget eliminated grant matching funds, and also included delinquent fee revenue that had not been calculated the first time around

“We appreciate the hard work of the staff in getting this done,” Council President Sonya Sanders said in a statement. “With this budget we are able to hold the line on taxes for a fourth consecutive year and adopt a fiscally sound budget. While we most likely won’t be able to do so next year, we are proud of the fact that, over the years, we’ve operated in such a way that we can adopt a budget with no tax increase for one more year.”
The borough's final budget for 2017 will be $32,085,088.
