Norristown Police Prepare For Citizens Police Academy

Want to learn more about what the Norristown police do on a daily basis? The Citizens Police Academy gives residents a chance.

NORRISTOWN, PA – The Norristown Police Department will be hosting a Citizen Police Academy starting August 31, they announced in a press release.

The purpose of the Academy is to give the community a better understanding of what, how, and why the department does in the community, police said.

The 10-week program will expand citizens’ knowledge and understanding of the law and explore police procedures, a press release states.

The CPA involves approximately 20 hours of instruction taught in two hour segments. Students can expect to see instruction on topics such as our policing strategy, dynamics of patrol, crime investigations, emergency communications and dispatch operations, as well as riding along with patrol, police said.

Participants will meet every Wednesday from 6:30p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and they must attend 75 percent or more of the scheduled classes in order to be eligible to graduate and receive a certificate, the release states.

Class size is limited to allow greater interaction between students and instructors.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply and be a resident of Norristown.
