Norristown Superintendent Janet Samuels Announces Retirement
Janet Samuels, Superintendent of the Norristown Area School District for the past decade, will retire this July.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Janet Samuels, Superintendent of the Norristown Area School District for the past decade, will retire at the end of this school year, the district announced.
Samuels has been in her position since 2008. Her career spans 40 years.
“Dr. Samuels is a champion for the children in our community,” Turea Hutson, President of the Board of School Directors, said in a statement. “For the past ten years, she has led the Norristown Area School District with resolve, increasing Advance Placement options, emphasizing college and career readiness, providing a greater commitment to music and the arts, and expanding public and private partnerships throughout the District."

Samuels began her career as a teacher in Delaware before working in the School District of Philadelphia, gradually working up to the position of principal and then Regional Superintendent as her "expertise in curriculum and instruction," as the district put it, became clear.
"She did a great job during her tenure and managed a complex job that provides a quality education to more than 7,000 students in our District,” Board Vice-President Matt Rivera added in a statement. “We are pleased with her accomplishments during the past ten years, and salute her for more than 40 years of service to education.”

Samuels' official final day will be July 31. A successor has not yet been named.
