Norristown Varsity Boys Take Down the Trojans
The Eagles traveled to Wissahickon on Thursday for varsity baseball and beat the Trojans, 6-3.
's Bobby Altieri shook off an early season slump Thursday afternoon, helping the Eagles gain an early leg-up on rival Wissahickon.
The sophomore left-fielder, who brought an 0-for-7 season start into the game, stroked a bases-loaded, one-out single in the sixth inning to drive in the go-ahead run. Backed by Roddy Vaughan's complete-game eight-hitter, Norristown held on to beat the Trojans, 6-3. See our video at right for highlights.
Altieri singled up the middle in his first at-bat, giving him two hits in the game. Shortstop Kevin McGinley also clubbed a two-run homer in the first inning.

Norristown banged out 11 hits, including two doubles from John Iorio and an RBI double by Luke DiBussolo.
The road victory over the defending Suburban One League's American Conference champion provided confidence for a team looking for improvement. The teams will face each other twice more this season, on April 18 in Norristown, then May 5 in Wissahickon.

The Eagles moved to 3-1 overall and in the conference. They opened the season with wins over Upper Moreland and Cheltenham, then lost to Upper Merion on April 4. They are one-half game ahead of Wissahickon, though the Trojans have played one more game.
"To get a win at their place early in the year is huge," Norristown head coach Jim Teeter said. "We have some very balanced teams in this conference. It's going to be an interesting year."
Norristown recorded its first conference win with strong pitching. Junior lefty Patrick Campion struck out six in six innings – and went 3-for-3 at the plate with three RBI – against Upper Moreland.
Vaughan went five innings in the win over Upper Moreland, with Evan Grimes working the final two innings. Brandon Iorio provided the power with a three-run, first-inning homer for Norristown. Eagles starters have gone at least five innings in every game this season.
Before the Wissahickon rematch on the April 18, the Eagles are scheduled to play Cheltenham on April 11 and Upper Merion on April 13. Both games are on the road.
