Norristown To Vote On 2023 Budget Tuesday Night
The upcoming municipal council meeting could set in stone what Norristown residents can expect in town in 2023.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The future of numerous initiatives and development in 2023 could take an important step forward on Tuesday night in Norristown when municipal council votes on the proposed budget.
Muncipal Council made public a glance at the proposal for next year during an October 18 meeting. The current proposal of $40.5 million marks about a $3 million increase over 2022's $37.8 million budget.
The proposal also includes the establishment of a new real estate tax rate.

"Some operating costs are up due to inflation," the municipality said during a recent presentation, noting prices for things like gas and vehicle maintenance.
They're also facing staffing shortages in various public safety positions, requiring overtime payments.

As things stand, Norristown has a $1.8 million revenue gap. A "large part" of the municipality's $1.2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding will be used to help close the gap.

Tuesday night's meeting is open to the public and will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit on 2 W. Lafayette Street.
