Nuclear Regulatory Commission Holds Public Meeting on Limerick Plant

The federal agency will meet with the public to discuss safety at Exelon's Nuclear Limerick Generating Station.

Representatives from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will meet with the public Wednesday, May 18, at 6 p.m. at the to discuss the agency's assessment of safety performance at Exelon Nuclear's .

Questions will be taken from the public regarding the plant’s performance, as well as the agency’s oversight of the facility.

“Our annual assessment reviews allow us to step back and gauge whether the nuclear power plants we regulate are on the right track in terms of performance and adhering to the highest levels of safety,” NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean said in a press release issued by the agency on Monday.

“Once we’ve completed these evaluations, we reach out to the public to share that information and to receive their feedback at a location near each plant. We welcome and value these exchanges," Dean said.

According to the NRC, federal inspectors spent about 5,900 hours inspecting the Limerick facility in 2010. Overall, the agency said, both Limerick reactors operated safely last year.
