Water Rescues Underway, Roads Closed In Norristown, Upper Merion

Breaking: At least eleven water rescues were underway Monday morning in the Upper Merion and Norristown areas as heavy rains poured down.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Heavy rains Monday morning led to road closures around the area and numerous water rescues.

As of about 9:40 a.m., there were 11 separate water rescue operations underway in the Upper Merion and Norristown areas, as well as in West Norriton and East Norriton.

In many places, heavy rain swelled nearby creeks, leading to treacherous conditions for cars.

The DeKalb Street Bridge was shut down before 10 a.m. due to flooding near Washington Street which made the area "impassable," according to Norristown Police.

Sterigere Street and Hardin Boulevard were also closed due to flooding.

Route 202 North, meanwhile, was reduced to a single lane of traffic due to flooding near the intersection of Main Street and Markley Street.

Rescue incidents were underway on Stanbridge St and W. Blackberry Alley in Norristown, Beidler Road and Sharon Court, the PA Turnpike westbound ramp to I-276, W. DeKalb Pike, N. Gulph Road (two), Allendale Road, 1st Ave. and Park Avenue, and Brandywine Lane - all in Upper Merion - according to Montgomery County Active Incidents.

Motorists are reminded to never drive through flooded areas, but to always turn around when they come to large pools of standing water.
