'Persistent' Thefts Of Hyundais, Kias In Norristown Due To Social Media

Social media "challenges" continue to plague the area.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Norristown area continues to be victimized by thefts and attempted thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles, police said in a notice issued to the community over the weekend.

Authorities say that social media "challenges" are to blame. Specifically, TikTok videos instructing criminals on exactly how to steal two types of cars, Kias and Hyundais, have led to a massive increase in thefts.

Thefts have been on the rise for years and police have been warning residents since last summer, but incidents have nonetheless continued.
