Police Briefs

The following information was supplied by the Norristown Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Robbery

  • According to reports from the , officers responded to a report of a robbery at gunpoint at the located on the 1300 block of Sandy Street on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 1:36 p.m. According to the victim, the armed robber entered the store and approached the cashier. He then reportedly pulled what appeared to be a small handgun from his right front pants pocket but did not point it at the victim. The suspect then reportedly walked with the cashier behind the counter and opened the register. The accused then removed the cash and placed in the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt and allegedly told the victim, “If you call the police, I will cap you.” After removing the money, the suspect then fled on foot crossing Sandy Street heading westbound. Police were unable to locate the suspect, however the victim stated the robber did not wear any gloves and may have left fingerprints on the register drawer. The drawer was then taken for evidence. Video surveillance was analyzed and saved for detectives.

Shooting

  • On Saturday, Sept. 17, police were dispatched to for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers reportedly spoke with the victim, but he allegedly was uncooperative with police. He reportedly told police he was approached by unknown number of males in a gray Hyundai who shot at him on the corner of Locust and Brown streets. The victim said he walked from the location where the shooting occurred to the hospital. When police checked the area, they reportedly were unable to locate any blood on the street. According to the report, the victim had black powder on the hand that received the injury and refused the state victim’s booklet.

Terrorist Threats, Shots Fired

  • A victim reported to police that he had been informed via third party information and Facebook contacts that two known males made threats to kill him. The victim told police that he found out about the threats on Monday, Sept. 19. The victim states that he was previously involved in a physical altercation with the accused but was able to break away from the incident. After fleeing, the accused allegedly fired two shots from inside a vehicle at the victim on the 400 block of West Marshall Street. The victim told police he was concerned for his safety after hearing about the threats from a third party. The victim received a victim’s form and advised to contact police about any additional threats.

Burglary

  • A victim returned home to the 1300 block of Arch Street at 3:20 pm on Saturday, Sept. 17, to find her home was burglarized. The victim reported to police that $500 in cash and four gold watches were missing and stated she would notify police if she found anything else missing.
  • A report of a burglary on the 500 block of Stanbridge Street Friday, Sept. 16 was made to police at 4:45 p.m. According to the victim, the entry was possibly made through a front window sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Stolen from inside the house were a TV, two desktop computers, a jar containing approximately $300 in coins and $1,000 cash from a drawer. The victim received a pamphlet and application for the compensation program.

Attempted Breaking & Entering

  • Police responded to a report of a possible breaking and entering Friday, Sept. 16, on the 1200 block of Astor Street. The victim claims that she came home Friday evening and noticed what appeared to be an attempt by an individual to push his/her way into the rear door of the residence. The victim received a pamphlet on victim’s rights.

Public Drunkenness

  • Mandy Crawford, of the 700 block of Arch Street, was arrested for public drunkenness on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Police received a report that a woman was allegedly intoxicated and walking with a stroller on the 300 block of Green Street. When officers arrived and made contact with Crawford, they reportedly observed her to be intoxicated to the point where she allegedly could not stand or walk without assistance. She reportedly smelled of alcohol and had glassy eyes and slurred speech. Crawford was taken into custody and Crawford’s mother picked up the baby. Crawford was then taken to the police station and held until sober.
  • Julio Evangelista, of the 500 block of Barbadoes Street, was arrested for public drunkenness on Tuesday, Sept. 20, after police were dispatched following a report of several males drinking in the parking lot of the above location. When police arrived, Evangelista was allegedly stumbling on his feet and smelled of alcohol. He was then taken to the police department and held until sober.
  • Omar M. Brown, of the 00 block of Chestnut Street in Plymouth meeting, was charged with public drunkenness on Tuesday, Sept. 20. According to the report, police responded to the 100 block of Ann Street for a report of Brown yelling and attempting to take his clothes off. It was also reported to police that Brown allegedly picked up and threw a bicycle. When police arrived on the scene, neighbors pointed out Brown as the individual reportedly making the disturbance. When police attempted to question Brown, he allegedly refused to stop and continued to elude police on foot. After police were able to apprehend Brown, he was incoherent and unable to answer police questions. Believing him to allegedly be under the influence of PCP, police had Brown escorted to the hospital by Plymouth Ambulance where he was observed and treated. He was released by the hospital and will be cited for public drunkenness by mail.

Disorderly Conduct

  • Gregory Swittenburg, of the 200 block of Minor Street, was charged with disorderly conduct on Tuesday, Sept. 20, after reportedly fleeing the scene where and officer attempted to stop another male. When Swittenburg was reportedly asked if he had any weapons on his person, he allegedly told police that he had a little marijuana on him. Police state the minuscule amount was destroyed and Swittenburg was cited for disorderly conduct and released.

Harassment

  • A victim reported to police that on Friday, Sept. 16, at 12:25 am she was in her store located on the 100 block of East Marshall Street when a male came in and reportedly grabbed her right hand several times and stated, “I’ll kill you.” The accused then let the store and walked north on Green Street. The store has video surveillance.
  • Peter Frisco, of the 700 block of East Moore Street, was charged with harassment for reportedly making offensive comments about a victim in a public setting. The victim made numerous previous threats and feels threatened by Frisco, who allegedly was also stalking the victim.
  • Tatyanna Berry, of the 100 block of Haws Avenue, was charged with harassment Monday, Sept. 19, after reportedly making threatening phone calls to the victim’s cell phone. She reportedly called the victim and stated that someone was going to “come and shoot [victim’s] house up.”
  • Marcus Hinton, of the 600 block of Astor Street, was charged with harassment after allegedly trying to start a fight with a victim on the 200 block of East Chestnut Street.
  • Jamara Stokes, of the 700 block of Chain Street, was charged with harassment after she allegedly tried to start a fight with another resident of the same street on Sept. 12.
  • Elizabeth Monteleone, of the 4900 block of Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia, and Christine Laskey, of the 300 block of West Fornance Street, were both charge with harassment after both women reportedly made threats to each other during an argument through Facebook messages Tuesday, Sept. 20. The threats were also transmitted by cell phone and through text messages.

Loafing, Trespassing

  • Tyrig Walton, of the 00 block of Lincoln Avenue, was cited for loafing after police witness him sitting on the steps of a residence of the 500 block of Green Street Tuesday, Sept. 20. According to the report, there were several no trespassing signs posted and Walton reportedly had no legitimate purpose for being there. He was cited and released.
  • Israel D. Cleveland, of the 1100 block of Swede Street, was cited for defiant trespassing after he reportedly entered a private yard on the 1700 block of Pine Street through a closed gate Monday, Sept. 17. The owner of the property reportedly found Cleveland sitting on the back porch without permission. He was then cited after police were able to identify him as the man in the yard.

Criminal Mischief

  • A victim states an unknown person threw some kind of solvent on the hood of his vehicle parked on the 200 block of Hamilton Street Friday, Sept. 16. The victim did not see anyone but said he has had his vehicle damaged several times in the past.
  • Police responded to a report of vandalism to a 1999 Ford Expedition on the 1400 block of Willow Street Tuesday, Sept. 20. According to the report, the vehicle’s windshield wiper was bent, damage was done to the interior, the turn signal lever was broken off and the radio was damaged.

Tags Seized

  • During a traffic stop on the 300 block of East Moore Street Saturday, Sept. 17, police seized the vehicle tag from a1998 red Mercury for cancellation of insurance. The vehicle was then towed.

Vandalism

  • A report of vehicle vandalism was made to police Saturday, Sept. 17. According to the victim, two of his vehicles were vandalized on the 00 block of West Oak Street. A 2002 black Toyota Camry and Cadillac Deville both reportedly had their windshields smashed.
  • In a separate unrelated act of vandalism on Saturday, Sept. 17, a 2000 green Chevrolet Blazer parked on the 500 block of George Street also had a windshield smashed and sustained damage to the rear bumper.
  • Police were dispatched to the 900 block of DeKalb Street for a report of shots fired on Friday, Sept. 16. Police reportedly spoke with the victim who says the shots struck his vehicle. Police observed small nicks on the vehicle’s rear passenger window from what appeared to officers to be caused by a rock. The victim was handed a victim’s compensation short form and signed for a victim’s rights pamphlet.

Theft of Vehicle

  • Police responded to the 100 block of Haws Avenue in reference to a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival, police spoke with a victim who stated that sometime between Thursday, Sept. 15, and Friday, Sept. 16, his Nissan Pathfinder was stolen from in front of his residence. The victim said the vehicle was parked legally and locked up, but stated he can’t find his second set of keys. The victim received a victim’s rights pamphlet  and police entered the vehicle information into a database.
Theft
  • A victim reported to police that her cell phone was stolen from an unlocked desk drawer at on the 1500 block of Arch Street on Thursday, Sept. 15. The victim claims the theft may have occurred between noon and 3pm and states there were several times throughout the day she left her classroom unattended. An attempt to call the phone was unsuccessful. The victim received a pamphlet and application for the compensation program.
  • Police received a report of a stolen cell phone from a local eatery located on the 100 block of West Main Street on Friday, Sept. 16. According to the victim, she left her phone on the counter and forgot to pick it up when she exited the above establishment. Employees stated they did not notice the phone as they were helping other customers but stated their was a surveillance camera. Although the employees did not know how to work the equipment, a call was placed to the owner who could not be reached at the time. Authorities were assured that the video would be saved in the system. The victim called her service provider and had her phone disconnected and data erased. The victim received a pamphlet and application for the compensation program.
  • Police filed an incident report of the theft of a cell phone form the 1000 block of Green Street Saturday, Sept. 17. According to the victim, the phone was left on the table and when she turned away for a brief minute someone took her phone.
  • A victim reported to police that sometime between Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 his green Navarro bicycle was stolen from the 200 block of Chain Street. The bike is estimated to be worth $400. The victim received a victim’s handbook.
  • On Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 9:30 a.m., a victim reported to police that he was contacted by his bank informing him a check was reportedly signed and cashed using his name for the amount of $646 on Sept 16. The victim states that he did not sign nor authorize the cashing of the check. He does not know who took the check or when it was taken from his residence. The victim was issued a victim’s rights book and compensation packet. A copy of the signed check was taken into evidence.

Recovered Property

  • A property manager found a cut open safe behind a Dumpster in the rear of a building on the 300 block of West Marshall Street Saturday, Sept. 17. The safe was taken and placed into evidence.
  • Police recovered 35 counterfeit CDs and 106 counterfeit DVDs after an arrest was made on an open warrant Thursday, Sept. 15. All the items were seized and entered into evidence. Police also recognized many of the movie titles to be new movies still being shown in theaters.

Animal Reports

  • Police responded to the 300 block of East Marshall Street in reference to a found kitten. Upon arrival, police observed a black and white kitten with a pink collar bearing no tags. The cat was transported to the SPCA Friday, Sept. 16.

Warrant

  • Kathleen Krouth, who has no known address, turned herself in on a county warrant Monday, Sept. 19. She was then taken directly to the sheriff’s bullpen, where she was released to the county sheriff’s department.
