Rabies Clinic Dates Announced In Norristown
The Montgomery County Health Department will be offering low-cost rabies immunization clinics again this year.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- The Montgomery County Health Department will be offering low-cost rabies immunization clinics again this year. It's the 26th year of the program, officials said.
The clinics will be held on the third Saturdays of both May and December, and will provide licensed rabies vaccines to dogs, cats, and ferrets for a reduced cost, according to the health department.
Rabies, a viral disease which affects the central nervous system, can affect all mammals, including humans. It is usually transmitted via bite and can be fatal.

The first clinic will be held on May 20 at the Abington Recycling Center from 9 a.m. to noon. The center is located on 2201 Florey Lane, just off Easton Road.
The second clinic will be held at the Montgomery Hose Fire Company on 201 West Freedley Street in Norristown on September 16. That will also last from 9 a.m. to noon.

All animals should be leashed or in a carrier when arriving at the clinic.
Vaccines cost $10 per shot.
Clinics across Montgomery County provided vaccines to 578 pets in 2016.
The last diagnosed case of human rabies in Pennsylvania was in 1984, the health department said.
