Recycle Clothes, Electronics From Your Front Door In Montco
If you have unwanted items, this new, free Montgomery County recycling service will pick them up from your front door.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A new service in Montgomery County is making recycling easier than ever before.
The new service, called "Retrievr," collects your unwanted items, specifically clothing and electronics, from your front door.
The process is simple: you can either visit Retrievr online, or text PICKUP to 757-703-3824.

They'll ask for your address, and you can then schedule a date for items to be picked up from your door.
All you need to do is bag or box the items up and leave them out for Retrievr to find.

The service is free, though there is a small fee for larger items like televisions or microwaves.
Otherwise, "just about any clean and dry textile or fabric in your home, and most electronic devices or accessories" are free to recycle.
As for what happens to items once they're picked up: Retrievr's first goal is to reuse the items by finding a new home for them. If that's not possible, they'll sometimes work to refurbish damaged items to find a way to extend their life. And if all else fails, items are re-manufactured from their component parts into new items. Old clothes can be shredded into home insulation or sofa stuffing materials, while electronics can be disassembled and sold for raw parts to manufacturers.
