Roy Halladay's Son Selected In 2019 MLB Draft
The son of the late, great Roy Halladay has been drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Halladay name, the name of one of the greatest pitchers of all time, is already enshrined in baseball lore for the ages. But although Roy Halladay's plaque will be in the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and on the Phillies Wall of Fame at Citizens Bank Park, and though the anniversaries of his greatest feats will be celebrated like holidays for all time, there's an even more vital way that his spirit will live on.
Braden Halladay, the son of the late Phillies pitcher, has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2019 MLB Draft.
The pick is largely symbolic, as it came in the 32nd round (Braden's father wore number 32), and because Braden has noted that both parties are aware he'll be honoring his committment to play for Penn State next year.

Thank you @BlueJays for drafting me in the 32nd round today! It’s a great honor! It’s with mutual understanding that I’ll still be honoring my commitment to Penn State! I look forward to college and bettering myself as a player and person, thank you to all who have supported me! pic.twitter.com/tUcKWZESPl

Still, it's a moving gesture by the Blue Jays, where Braden's father pitched for the first chunk of his career before coming to the Phillies.
Roy Halladay, who died at 40 in a plane crash in 2017, is one of the greatest Philadelphia athletes of all time. Though his tenure here was comparatively short, his perfect game, playoff no-hitter, Cy Young Award, and general dominance are unforgettable.

Interestingly, if Braden did play for the Blue Jays, he'd be the third son of a Hall of Famer on their roster. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Cavan Biggio, sons of Vladimir Guerrero and Craig Biggio, made their debuts in 2019.
Braden, 18, pitched for Calvary Christian High School in Florida before making his committment to compete for Penn State. Scouts with Perfect Game praised his long limbs and athletic delivery, noting that his pitches induce a lot of weak contact from hitters.
