A pair of key Phillies went down Friday night, adding to the litany of injuries suffered by the first place team this week.
The Phillies hottest hitter, Scott Kingery, pulled up as he ran out a groundout in the top of the fourth inning of the game against the. The Phillies later said he had suffered a right hamstring strain.
Then, in the top of the fifth, right fielder Andrew McCutchen came out after advancing from first to second on a single. McCutchen appeared to have tweaked something in his back on a swing in the second inning, and it did not loosen as the game progressed.

Malvern Prep graduate and recent call-up Phil Gosselin was put in to replace Kingery, while Aaron Altherr was plugged in for McCutchen.
The two injuries are just the latest in a recent string for the Phillies, who have seen Opening Day starters Odubel Herrera and Jean Segura miss time, as well as key reliever David Robertson. Herrera and Robertson are on the 10-day injured list, while Segura remains with the team and hopes to be back as early as Sunday.

The Phillies came in to the season with a wealth of depth around the diamond, and less than a month in, that depth is already proving important. Kingery only got a full time chance when Segura went down, while both Aaron Altherr and Nick Williams, Opening Day starters in 2018 who have shown the potential to be Major League regulars, have been riding the bench.
It's not yet known how much time Kingery and McCutchen will miss, if any at all. If they need to go to the injured list, the Phillies have Dylan Cozens and Arquimedes Gamboa on the 40 man roster to fill out the bench.
