PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Process will go on in Philadelphia, as the eponymous, larger than life figure that is Joel Embiid has signed a contract extension with the 76ers.
The 2021 MVP candidate has agreed to a four year, $196 million contract extension that will keep him a Sixers through 2027, ESPN first reported and the team confirmed Tuesday morning.
One of the NBA's premier superstars, Embiid led the Sixers to the top seed in the Eastern Conference this past season, posting astounding numbers that gave him runner-up standing in the MVP race. Were it not for an injury which sidelined him for weeks, he may have been able to pull even with Denver's Nikola Jokić.

The new four year deal comes on top of the two years and $65 million remaining on his current contract.
For however disappointing the Sixers early playoff exit in 2021 may have been, none of it is to blame on their 7-foot-tall center, who has done nothing but dominate since his emergence in 2016.

Embiid, still just 26, posted career numbers in 2021, including averaging 28.5 points a game, 10.6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1.4 blocks, and 2.8 assists. The Sixers playoff teams of the last four years have been built around him and multi-time All Star Ben Simmons, though it remains unclear if the Sixers will stick with Simmons heading into the 2021-22 season.
