Smash Mouth Upset Bryce Harper Picked Phillies Over San Francisco
Apparently, Smash Mouth says, Bryce Harper shouldn't have come to Philly because fans don't boo in San Francisco.

Apparently, according to the wisdom of one rock star, anyway, Bryce Harper shouldn't have come to Philadelphia because fans don't boo in San Francisco.
Smash Mouth is just the latest person to react to Bryce Harper's recent slump and the choice of some fans in Philadelphia to boo him over the past few nights.
"Yo Bryce.......told you not to go to Philly jackass!" he wrote in a bizarre tweet Wednesday. He then claimed that San Francisco fans "never" boo their own players, before an inexplicable comment about Harper's Philadelphia commute.

Yo Bryce.......told you not to go to Philly jackass! The @SFGiants fans NEVER boo their own players! You we're lead by $ only so swim in the sea of boos now! How much do you love your agent now?? Worth the taxes you avoided? How's that 45min drive to the stadium?lol @bryceharper3

Dubious grammar aside, not only is Harper swimming in cash, he's also swimming in wins. The Phillies sit in first place in the NL East, remain financially flexible, and have surrounded him with a bevy of young talent that looks to be successful for years to come. Attendance is booming — meaning that a slightly longer drive to a stadium that actually has fans in it is probably worth it — and they have the sixth youngest roster in all of baseball.
The Giants, meanwhile, are in last place, and are coming off of two straight years of being one of the worst teams in the game. To make matters even worse, they owe tens of millions in committments to aging players, their attendance is plummeting sharply, and they have the second oldest roster in the sport. And for a team that has earned itself high draft picks two years running, they somehow still have the third worst farm system in baseball, according to MiLB.com.

Yes, it is ridiculous to boo Harper. He's notoriously streaky, and that's something you're only going to miss if you ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. Anyone who paid attention to his career knew that long before he was signed to his record 13 year, $330 million contract in February. For almost every year of his career, Harper has had a month or two where he performed below average, only to make up for it with superstar production the rest of the way.
But what's even more absurd is to suggest that Harper should've chosen to spend the better part of the next decade on a team that is hopelessly drowning, with no light on the horizon.
It turns out there might not be a whole lot of overlap between baseball acumen and music stardom. But who knows, maybe Scott Boras tries his hand at singing next.
