Sportsbook In Oaks, Valley Forge Casino, Debut Sports Gambling

Two locations in the Valley Forge area are launching sports betting operations this week, in time for the Phillies season and March Madness.

VALLEY FORGE, PA — Just in time for the Phillies season and March Madness, two locations in the Valley Forge area are launching sports betting operations this week.

Greenwood Racing, which owns Parx Casino, is opening up Valley Forge Race and Sportsbook over in Oaks at the former Valley Forge Turf Club. The debut is set for Thursday, March 14 at 11 a.m.

And over at Valley Forge Casino, Boyd Gaming and FanDuel are launching Pennsylvania's first FanDuel Sportsbook location. They'll open up on Wednesday, March 13 at noon.

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling in May 2018 paved the way for states to legalize sports betting. In Pennsylvania, the state's 12 casinos can operate a sportsbook after paying a $10 million fee.

Legal sports betting arrived in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh casinos by December 2018.

The Valley Forge Race and Sportsbook, located on 600 Cresson Avenue at the Oaks Corporate Center, will be open for two testing dates on March 12 and March 13, each of which are open to the public. Full approval is expected from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board following the testing.

The facility in Oaks, opened in 1996 as the Turf Club, was renovated in anticipation of adding sports betting. More than 100 televisions were installed.

The FanDuel Sportsbook at Valley Forge Casino is an 1,800 square foot new space located adjacent to the gaming floor at the casino entrnace. There are seven teller windows, 29 video displays of both sports and odds, two sports tickers, and seating for up to 30, the casino said.

Former Eagles tight end Brent Celek will make the first ceremonial bet on Wednesday at the casino.

Viewing opportunities and betting will be available for NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA, MMA, boxing, college sports, golf, tennis, and more at both locations.
