Suspect Fleeing Police Jumps Into Schuylkill River: Report

A man fleeing from the police in Norristown on Monday afternoon jumped into the Schuylkill River.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- A suspect fleeing from the police in Norristown leaped into the Schuylkill River on Monday afternoon, where crews had to rescue him, according to reports.

6ABC reports that the man was chased into the river at around 3 p.m. near the Haws Avenue Bridge.

The Norristown Fire Department was on the scene as crews conducted a rescue of the man from the water.

He was safely recovered and is now in custody, officials said.

Police have not yet stated why he was wanted.
