Suspects are pretending to be health inspectors to steal money from restaurants across Montgomery County, officials said.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Suspects are pretending to be health inspectors to steal money from restaurants across Montgomery County, officials said on Tuesday.
The county's Department of Health and Human Services said that numerous reports have been received from establishments around the county.
Suspects call the business owners and ask them to pay fines for "violations" by putting money on a Green Dot prepaid debit card, according to the county.

"Payment for fines or other fees are never taken in the field,” Barbara O’Malley, Director of Health and Human Services for Montgomery County, said in a statement. “Payments are made by money order or check made out to the county’s treasurer. Anyone who is asked to make a payment by any other means should contact the county."
Health inspectors always carry a badge and county photo identification card to prove who they are, authorities said.
